The Spinners is an international collaboration between Scottish director &
performer Al Seed and Australian Choreographer & performer Lina Limosani.
Through dance and theatre they have spun a highly original work, taking its sustenance from the rich worlds of ancient mythology. Together they drill into the story of The Morai, or Fates, of Greek myth. Virtuosic dancers spin, measure and cut the thread of life, creating an emotionally charged dance-theatre performance that probes our perceptions of freewill and mortality.
The Spinners brings the Fates down to earth and re-imagines them living in a sprawling city. From their apartment they administrate the births and deaths of all human beings, drawing the ‘thread of life’ from their own bodies.
As they spin, measure and cut, tensions emerge between discipline and compassion, with all of humanity caught up in the conflict.
The Spinners is a celebration of female-centric dance-theatre and the particular qualities and energies this cast has brought to their dynamic exploration of the vibrant source material.
